We get our data from Alexa, Compete, Google, Bing, Yahoo, and other internet tracking services.

Accuracy

We’ve learned that if a measuring company doesn’t have a tracking pixel directly on the Web site it is tracking, the numbers can be unreliable. Any site that claims othewise is lying to you.

Alexa, for example, uses a toolbar that some people install into their browser, so that their web surfing can be statistically captured. Since only a small percentage of all internet users, use Alexa, the data from them is almost certainly not completely accurate. However, both Alexa and TrafficSize have made corrections to the data to attempt to make it as accurate as possible.

Using Public Disclosures improves accuracy for all

When a website publishes their traffic data in a blog post, an email to us here, or in an investor disclosure, TrafficSize uses that information to calibrate our system to the data we have from Compete, Alexa, and backlink data. Even if the site you are intersted in has never published or disclosed their traffic data, the fact that we are constantly calibrating our system with disclosed data makes it more accurate for all sites.
